In a twist that could mark the rebirth of the sector, this Thursday the country woke up with its first simultaneous premiere with the world since March 2020. The milestone rests in Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson’s latest film with Marvel, which can be seen in the seven cinemas currently open. The Cine Star (Punta Arenas, Curicó) and the Cine Sala Estrella (Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales), which had been running for a few days, were today joined by two Cine Hoyts complexes (Antofagasta, Chillán) and one at Cinemark in Iquique.
This last chain also plans to open Black Widow movie four more this Saturday, divided between Viña del Mar (Marina Arauco, Espacio Urbano) and Concepción (Mallplaza Bio-Bio, Mallplaza Trébol). And outside of the big companies, on Monday, Sala -1Cine de Puerto Varas returns to activity -which goes on to phase 3- and for Monday 19 in Santiago the return of the Normandie was set.
With those rather encouraging signs, the exhibition industry received the changes to the Footsteps plan that were announced this Thursday. A series of modifications that in the cinema industry unleash questions about the capacity, the sale of food and the hours of the functions.
According to the update granted by the authority, the number of spectators allowed between phases 2 and 4 increases and in each case the increase varies depending on whether it is decided to host attendees with or without a mobility pass. In phase 2, for example, the first in which cinemas can open (despite the industry resisting because it is not considered viable in economic terms), the capacity increases from 10 to 50 people, but the operation is restricted to only spectators who carry the pass. Under the heading “activities without interaction between attendees”, these parameters apply both for cinemas and for stadiums, seminars, religious rites, theaters and circuses, without mentioning the separation between seats, previously established at 122 cms.
“It is difficult to understand how it is going to be. For example, if the two separate seats between people are to be maintained. We have until next Thursday to be clear, ”says Ricardo Mattioni Cárdenas, who manages the Cine Sala Estrella complexes in Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales. Both locations, due to the fact that they are in phase 3, could receive more public once the modifications take effect, although in principle the sale of food is no longer authorized.
